Brent Dietz

1989 Fermi High School graduate holds course records at Oak Ridge (63), Cedar Knob (64), Longmeadow (64), Gillette Ridge (67) and Great Horse (67). 2003 Connecticut State team champion, 2007 Connecticut mid-amateur champion, 2007 and 2012 Connecticut Master Card Tournament of Champions winner, 2013 Manchester Open amateur champion, 2013 Connecticut State Public links champion, 2013 New England Four-ball champion, eight time Cedar Knob champion, and two time Oak Ridge club champion.

Marty Green

Outstanding Wrestler and dominated opponents in his long middle school and high school career. 1983 Enfield High School graduate.  Holds a three-year record of 98-7, including 38-2 as a junior, and 40-0 as a senior. Named Third place in Class L as a sophomore, Second place as a junior, and Champion as a senior (received the Most Outstanding Wrestler honor for the tournament). Placed Second place in The State Open as a junior, and won The State Open as a senior at 132 lbs. while giving up zero points in the entire tournament.

Karen McCartney

1984 Enfield High School graduate, and was a tennis standout for all four years (which included her freshmen year while at Kosciuszko Junior High School).  Karen was ranked Number One at singles and All-CCIL all four years.  Named All-State in 1983 and 1984.  She was a state semi-finalist in 1983, and a state finalist in 1984. She was Undefeated during the regular season her senior year, with the only loss being in the State Finals. Named Most Valuable Player all four years, and was named team captain in 1983 and 1984.  Additionally, She played singles and doubles for four years in the Division 1 Big East Conference at UCONN from 1984-88.

Jim Russell

Enrico Fermi High school Men’s soccer coach from 1987-2015. Won four CCC East Championships, and made 18 state tournament appearances. Was Class L runner-up in 2006, losing the title game in double overtime. Coached 13 first team All-state players. Has the record of the most wins in school program history with over 220.  The heart of his coaching philosophy embraced the athlete both on and off the field. Although winning was important, he instilled the core life values off the field to his athletes. He coached with discipline, humor, while conveying the importance of academics, teamwork, sportsmanship, positive attitude, respect, integrity, and a strong work ethic.

Liz Zirolli

Raised in Enfield, CT and discovered a love for soccer at a young age playing for the town and on co-ed teams. Played for JFK Middle School and Enfield High School (1985-1989). While at Enfield High, played for the girls’ soccer team and was named All-CCC for all four years. Named to the All-State Team, Class M in 1988, and ended high school career leading Enfield with 34 goals, plus 20 assists for a total of 88 points. Played for the women’s soccer team at Saint Anselm College for four years, from 1989-1992. Competed in a total of 70 games with 31 points. Captured the Northeast 10 Conference Championship in 1991. In 1992, named team captain and received the honor of Northeast 10 All-Conference Honorable Mention Player and Northeast 10 All-Conference Academic Team.

George Daly Jr. Special Recognition Award – Kevin Barmak Memorial Soccer Tournament

The Barmak family and The Enfield Soccer Club created the Kevin Barmak Memorial Soccer Tournament in memory of the Barmak’s son, Kevin, in 1992.  Kevin’s outstanding soccer career included playing with Enfield soccer, District soccer, State Olympic development soccer, John F. Kennedy Junior High School and Enrico Fermi High School teams. The tournament, drawing teams from players and teams from the region, provides a fun and exciting weekend for thousands of athletes over Labor Day.  Teams compete while exhibiting fair play, great teamwork, and good sportsmanship.  A portion of the proceeds from the annual event directly benefit The Kevin Barmak Memorial Scholarship fund, which are awarded each spring in Enfield.  Scholarships totaling over $80,000 have been awarded. Kevin Barmak’s legacy has been preserved for many years, and continues to impact and inspire the lives of many local athletes.
