ENFIELD ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME - SCHOLARSHIPS

Since 1997, The Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame has been awarding scholarships to Enfield and Fermi High School’s senior athletes  going onto to college. The awards are offered to provide some financial assistance to those senior students who have excelled in Enfield athletics. and met the desired criteria. We have given out over $60,000 total to deserving High School seniors over the years.  The necessary funds are raised at our annual events to support these scholarships.

To receive the Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame Scholarship, the candidate must have excelled in Enfield athletics (at least one varsity letter), maintained a “B” or better GPA, and have demonstrated a measurable degree of community service to our Town of Enfield.

The Amy Romano Memorial Scholarship, in memory of 1997 Hall of Fame Inductee, and longtime committee member Amy Romano, will also be given out. The candidate must have excelled in Enfield athletics (at least one varsity letter), maintained a “B” or better GPA, and have demonstrated a measurable degree of community service to our Town of Enfield.

Amy Romano served as a teacher and coach in the Enfield Public School system for many years, until her tragic death in 2007 at the age of 40 years old.  She was a 1984 graduate of Enrico Fermi High School and three sport star athlete for the Falcons, excelling at field hockey, softball, and basketball. She earned all-league recognition in all 3 sports, and all-state honors in field hockey and softball.  She continued her field hockey and softball career at Assumption College. She scored numerous college honors, including All-Northeast Region for field hockey in her sophomore, junior, and senior years.  In addition, Amy received Assumption’s senior student-athlete award as the top student athlete in the college.

In addition to the Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame, she was inducted into the Assumption College Hall of Fame and the Connecticut Softball Hall of Fame.  Most importantly, she was a caring, loving, and devoted daughter, sister, niece, aunt, friend, and coach who is greatly missed by all who had the pleasure in knowing her. This scholarship honors Amy for the role model she was to so many people.

The applications are available at Enfield High School’s  guidance department from January – April 1st.

Some of the criteria for the award include: Listing of Colleges accepted  to;  Athletic Awards/Honors received; Other Scholarships received; Any family & financial special circumstances; One original, single spaced, full page essay on the influence of athletics in your life; Two letters of recommendation from non-family members; Class rank, one varsity letter earned, be in good academic standing; and some degree of community service.

All applications will be reviewed by the scholarship sub-committee and their decision is final. Award recipients must show proof of college acceptance prior to receiving the financial award.
