JOHN (JACK) O’BRIEN

Began his sports career playing 2nd base on the Murdocks teams from ages 10 to 16 in the 1930’s. Attended Enfield High School (1940-1944), and lettered in 4-sports (baseball, basketball, track, and tennis). Played forward on 1943 Valley Wheel championship basketball team. Star pitcher & shortstop for 1944 Valley Wheel Championship baseball team. In 1945-46, was in the U.S. Navy, and played 2nd Base for the Philadelphia Naval Hospital Team. After college at St. Michael’s, played for Bigelow-Sanford basketball in the AAA Industrial League (1944-45). Played 2nd base for the Bigelow-Sanford baseball team in 1947 & 1948. Member of 1948 AAA Industrial League Champions. Named the league All-Star 2nd baseman. Played for Lindy’s Baseball and Club Silhouette baseball teams. Won the Knights of Columbus tournament. Youth Center Assistant Director (1952-1957); Little League Umpire (1952); Enfield Parks & Rec Basketball League Referee (1952-1954). Taught in Enfield School System (8th grade English & Social Studies) at Hazardville Memorial School (1952-1956). Coached baseball and basketball at the school from 1953-1956. Taught in Windsor Locks School System (English, Social Studies 8th grade from 1956-61. Principal of Windsor Locks High School from 1975-86 upon retirement.

SUSAN (HERTER) BOUCHER

Raised in Enfield playing softball, basketball, and swimming. At JFK Junior High School, played field hockey, basketball and softball. Named team captain in all three sports in 9th grade at JFK. At Enfield High School (EHS), she lettered in three sports (softball, field hockey, and basketball). At EHS, scored a total of 66 goals in field hockey, and was the starting pitcher for the 1975 CCIL softball champions. Named three-sport Captain in her senior year at EHS. Named to CCIL First-team in softball & field hockey, while on CCIL second-team in basketball. At age 15, asked to play for prestigious Westfield Whips (level A) softball team. Played for Whips for 3 summers, and pitched two no-hitters. Attended CCSU as a four-year varsity field hockey starter scoring over 82 goals. Named to Div. 2 All-New England first teams for both field hockey and softball at CCSU. Participated in 1978 U.S. field hockey Olympic trials. Graduated from CCSU, and continued to play competitive softball and field hockey until 1990. Was Newington High School varsity field hockey coach (1983-84); Glastonbury High School varsity field hockey coach (1995-97); EHS JV field hockey coach (1997-99); LP Wilson Jr. High School basketball coach (1983-85); EHS JV volleyball coach (1984-86). Currently Science Department Chairperson at EHS. Named 2002 EHS Teacher of the Year, and 2003 Connecticut Science Teacher of the Year.

JOSEPH J. NUCCIO

Active in athletics throughout his education and career. Played sports at the Enfield Youth Center under Angelo Lamagna, basketball at A.D. Higgins under Carl Angelica, basketball on the Mt. Carmel team for George LaGrange, and baseball for the Thompsonville teams coached by Joe Golas. As a student at Enfield High (1945-1949), earned varsity letters in four sports: football, basketball, baseball, and track. Member of 1948 EHS Class “M” CT State Championship Football Team; 1947-1949 basketball team were called the “Whiz Kids.” Played American Legion baseball for Maciolek Post 154. Attended UCONN, where he played football, coached the 1953 Sigma Nu basketball championship team, and received his degree in Physical Education. Played semi-professional baseball in Springfield, MA. While in U.S. Army, coached the Fort Dix First Army Area champions in 1955, which placed third in the All-Army tournament. Head football coach at Berlin High School (BHS) & coached several Northwest Conference championship teams. At BHS, was varsity basketball assistant coach & played in many Class “B” state tournaments. Received Central Connecticut Interscholastic League Merit Award (1964). Received the Berlin Jaycees Outstanding Young Educator Award (1966). Returning to Enfield as a P.E. teacher, became head football coach at Enrico Fermi High School (1970). Received the first honorary Lifetime Membership Award for Outstanding Service to Students, Sports, and Fermi Booster Club (1971-1972). Became varsity softball head coach until his retirement in 1993.

PATRICIA (GOLDEN) HUBBARD

Enfield native started sports career in Enfield Girls Softball Association at age 6 and frequent all-star. Played Rec basketball in the Enfield town leagues (ages 7-12). At JFK Junior High School, played field hockey, basketball, & softball. At Enfield High School (EHS), named to National Honor Society while playing Field Hockey all four years. Named All-Conference for 3 years, All- State for 2 years, team MVP twice, and team co-captain her senior year. Played EHS basketball 4 seasons & named All-Conference twice. Played 3 years varsity softball & team co-captain and MVP in junior year. Attended Providence College (PC) playing 4 years of varsity field hockey. 1989 team went 21-3-0 (most wins in the history of the program), and during the regular season attained #1 USA ranking. Won Big East tournament championship, & advanced to the quarterfinals of NCAA championship. 1990 team went 12-8-2 and finished as runner-up at the Big East Championship. 1991 team compiled a 12-8-2 record winning the program’s second Big East championship. 1992 team had a 13-6-2 record. Over her 4-year career, compiled a 64-22-5 (.708) winning percentage, 2 Big East champions, NCAA tournament participant 3/4 years. She ranks in top-30 All-Time at Providence College in career field hockey scoring. Named to the scholastic Deans List. After college, competing in Twin Cities, NYC, Chicago, and Honolulu marathons. Olympic Distance Triathlons including Escape from Alcatraz, San Jose, Santa Cruz, Treasure Island/San Francisco, and Chicago Triathlon. Hi-Tec Adventure races in Atlanta, Miami, and Sacramento.

JOHN HAYDEN

Excelled in Little League & Babe Ruth Baseball and multiple All-Star Teams. Played St. Bernard’s Basketball, Enfield Ramblers Football. 1st place in the Hartford County YMCA Track and Field Meet. Enfield High School (1960-64) set numerous Football & Track records, named 1968 Team Co-captain, All-Suburban Honors, & Team MVP for both sports. Lettered in Basketball. Member of 1st EHS Wrestling Team. East/West CT Nutmeg Bowl Senior All-Star Football Game. SCSU (1968-1972) Varsity Football & Track 4 yrs; SCSU Freshman Basketball & Boxing Club. Set rushing records at SCSU- New Haven Gridiron Club Award; Player of Week by Yale Athletic Association. Scouted by NFL’s Giants, Redskins, and Browns; knee injury in senior year ended possible NFL career. Semi-Pro Football (1973-80): Hartford Knights, Holyoke Pioneers, Bridgeport Jets, New Haven Patriots, Bridgeport Buccaneers. Earned tryouts with NY Jets (NFL), NY Stars (WFL) & Montreal Alouettes (CFL). Set records as defensive coordinator for Norwalk Community College. Helped start football team at Fairfield University as defensive coordinator. Coached football at New Canaan HS & Stamford HS. Girls Track & Boy’s Wrestling New Canaan HS. Coached two swimmers to the National Special Olympics. Held Coaching/Teaching positions (1976-84) in Football & Boy’s Track at Westhill HS in Stamford, CT. Earned a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do 1983. NY (1984-94) actor, model, and stuntman. Relocates to Calif (1994) for acting career. Coached Agoura HS Football (1997-2002). Worked with dozens of Academy Award nominees and winners.

MARCEL DUMAS

Raised in Enfield playing midget football for the Enfield Starrs and the Enfield Ramblers. Graduated from Enrico Fermi High School in 1990 after playing four years of football. Three-year, two-way starter as a receiver and linebacker. As a junior, voted team captain and set a school record for most pass receptions (60) in a season. This achievement earned him MVP & All- CCC East honors. As a senior, captained the 1989 team that set a school record for wins with an 8-2 record. Named to the New Haven Register & the Hartford Courant All-State Teams (first player from Enfield to be named All-State in football). Named All-CCC East receiver and linebacker and the team’s MVP. Had a state high 66 reception (school record) for 1,027 yards and ten touchdowns. For his 4 year career, recorded 150 receptions, 1,836 yards, and 19 touchdown receptions all of which were school records. After EFHS, attended Milford Academy Prep for one year (1990) where he started at defensive back and recorded 70 tackles and three interceptions. From 1991-1994, played as a 4 year starter in football at Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) at defensive back. In 1992, he was named Division II All-New England Defensive Back. In 1993, earned the Jess Dow Award as Defensive Player of the Year. In 1994, named team captain, Division II All New England Defensive Back, Jess Dow Award for Defensive Player of the Year. Named ECAC player of the week with 3 interceptions and 7 tackles against CCSU once. At SCSU, recorded 222 tackles and 10 interceptions. In 1996, played professional football in France starting at strong safety for the Amien Spartiates.

LARRY TRACEY – George Daly Jr. Award – SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD

Member of the Central Connecticut Association of Football Officials (CCAFO) for High Schools from 1970 to present. President of the Central Connecticut Association of Football Officials (CCAFO) for High Schools in 1995. Member of the Connecticut Board of Certified Basketball Officials from 1978-1994. President of the “CBCBO” – Hartford, CT Chapter from 1993-1994. College Athletics ECAC Football – Umpire (injury ended “on field” work) from 1979-1994. College Athletics Game Clock Operator (ECO) – Big East Football Conference, Ivy League, Collegiate Athletic Conference, ECAC, CCAFO from 1995- present.
