Robert Bromage

Enfield High School varsity baseball coach since 1967.  A 1961 graduate of Berlin (CT) High School, where he played varsity baseball for four years and won the league championship each year, and State tournament one year.  Attended Wilbraham (MA) Prep School and played football, basketball, and baseball.  Was baseball captain MVP, and was scouted by 12 major league teams.  Played one year in the Sagueny River League in Alma, Quebec, and breaking a league record by striking out 24 batters in a 9-inning game.  A 1966 graduate of Springfield College, where he played 3 years of varsity baseball.  Played in the Hartford Twilight League and Western Mass. Tri-County League, retiring in 1974.  Coached Kinheim, Netherlands professional baseball team to a second-place finish in 1977.  Enfield High School baseball team was awarded the Sportsmanship Award from the Umpires Association in 1994.  Named Connecticut High School Coach of the Year in 1995.  Over 80 of his players continued with college baseball careers, and three were signed to major league contracts.  Coached 1999 to 2001 EHS teams to the state tournament, and his 2001 team won the NCCC, but was runner up in the state finals.

Chris Corkum

1970 graduate of Enfield High School, where he led the team with a .450 batting average in his senior year.  Played varsity baseball at Providence College from 1970 – 1973, and his team was ranked #2 in New England Division I in 1972.  He played in the Western Mass. Tri-County League since 1979, compiling a .354 batting average in 568 games.  Named to the league all-star team each year since 1981, and was the league Manager of the Year in 1991.  Has played in the CT Men’s Senior Baseball League since 1990, named to the all-star team five times, and honored as the Outstanding Player in CT (1991).  Also played 7 years in the Greater Hartford Twilight League.  Started Chris Corkum Baseball, Inc. in 1984 and runs 30 camps annually in CT and MA.  Has been a Sports Psychology instructor in the Enfield Continuing education Program since 1995.

Nick “CoCo” Gaetani

1945 graduate of Enfield High School, where he played basketball, baseball, and track.  Continued to excel in several sports while serving in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1947.  Quarterback for the 1948-1949 Grey’s A.A. football team, and 1950-1954 Rinaldi Post semi-pro football team.  Graduated from Arnold College (now University of Bridgeport) in 1952.  Played shortstop for Sunset Restaurant fast pitch softball team in the 1950’s, considered the best team in New England.  Coached many youth baseball and basketball teams in the 1950’s and 1960’s, winning several Springfield Daily News Tournaments.  Helped establish the Grey’s A.A. semi-pro basketball team in 1961, and won the New England Basketball Association championship in 1964.  Coached numerous Enfield athletes who went on to become well-known in various sports.  Outstanding tenpin bowler, and competed in many west coast tournaments.

Sharon LeBrecque

1974 Graduate of Enrico Fermi High School, and earned varsity letters in field hockey, basketball, and softball.  Named field hockey’s Best Defensive Player in her senior year, and Most Improved Player & Best Foul Shooter in basketball.  Her softball team lost her first game, then was undefeated for the next three seasons and qualified for their first CIAC Class L State tournament.  She compiled a .527 batting average and led the team in runs scored and total bases.  Was a 1978 Cum Laude graduate of Springfield College, earning varsity letters in field hockey (four), softball (two), and lacrosse (two).  Her field hockey team won Northeast Division Regional Tournament each year, and placed 3rd nationally in the 1975 AIAW U.S. Field Hockey Tournament.  Played on Hampshire Association field hockey team, while her Northeast Regional team won the 1979-1980 National Tournament (named 1st team Defensive Player).  Coached field hockey and gymnastics, and officiated field hockey, volleyball, and softball.  Presently the DARE officer for the Enfield Police, recognized for her work with children.

Joseph Lamana

Born and raised in Enfield. Played baseball and basketball at Higgins school, and baseball in the Springfield Sandlot League, where his team won the league championships.  Attended Cathedral High School and played football for 3 years, and his team only lost 2 games and undefeated in 1943.  Drafted in the Navy at the start of his senior year, but returned to finish high school at Suffield Academy, lettering in football and baseball.  Played football for 4 years at freshman and varsity levels at Boston University.  Became a Physical Education teacher, assistant football and basketball coach, and Head track at Enfield High School.  Was Head football coach at EHS from 1963- 1974, and his teams won better than 60% of their games.  His 1968 team was undefeated and co-champions of the Suburban League, and the 1972 team ranked 3rd in the state.  Was the EHS Golf coach from 1975 to his retirement in 1985.  Recognized by Gov. Ella Grasso for instilling good character in his players who graduated from the CT State Police Training School.

Mike Melfa

1939 graduate of Enfield High School, where he played 3 years of varsity basketball and baseball.  Basketball team captain in 1939, and was the 2nd leading scorer in the Valley Wheel Conference.  Held a batting average in his senior year of .412 in baseball.  Was the Assistant baseball coach at the Hartford Trade School from 1940-1942.  Played basketball over 20 years with the Mt. Carmel-Grey’s team, Vic’s restaurant, Springfield Armory, Rinaldi Post,  Holyoke league, and the AAA Western Mass League.  Vic’s Restaurant won the 1941 Springfield Daily News tournament, and he was named to the All-Tournament team.

John Spellman

Graduated from Enfield High School in 1918, where he was a standout athlete in football (offense/defense) and wrestling.  Attended Brown University, and starred on the football team in the prestigious Ivy League, and was named Captain in 1923.  Was an outstanding performer and captain of the Brown wrestling team.  Qualified in New York for the U.S. Olympic Wrestling team, and won a gold medal in light heavyweight freestyle division in the 1924 summer games in Paris.  Played professional football for the Providence Steamrollers of the NFL from 1925 – 1931.  Was a starting tackle on both offense and defense as the team captured the NFL championship in 1928.  Finished his pro football career with the Boston Redskins in 1932.  In the offseason, he was a professional wrestler.

Jeff Wheeler

1981 graduate of Enfield High School, where he played basketball (3 years), soccer (2 years), and baseball (1 year).  Was EHS’ all-time leading scorer with 1,081 points, and team captain from 19790 -1981 in basketball.  Named to the CCIL All-star team all 3 years, All-area 2nd team in 1980, and All-area 1st team in 1981.  Played basketball for traveling tournament teams, and was named to All-tournament team in the Torrington tourney.  1985 Graduate of the University of Maine, where he lettered in basketball all four years.  He was a 3-year starter scoring over 900 points, named team captain from 1984-1985, and led the team in assists.  Named to All-League team, Carrier Classic All-Tournament team, and the New England All-Star team.  Basketball instructor at Syracuse University, St. Bonaventure College, and the College of the Holy Cross.  Star player in winter basketball leagues in Enfield, Greenfield, Westfield, and Northampton, MA
